Solar Thermal Energy

SOLAR THERMAL ENERGY
Continuing with small-scale energy utilization, currently a project is being carried out based on the using of solar thermal energy for the small-scale production of heat and electricity with clean electric power generation units.
This project, known as Project BIOSOL, began in June 2010, and is now being carried out in the Department of Renewable Energy.

OBJETIVES

The main objective of the project in its current phase consists of analyzing the technical and economic viability of the application of one of these small-scale (125 kWe) clean electric power generation units, utilizing the heat from solar thermal energy. The project is, therefore, in the phase of analysis of the current state of solar thermal energy, likewise studying the viability of combining said technology with the electric power generation units with the final objective of designing and building a small installation for electric power generation.  Another objective is to analyze the possibilities of supplementing and hybridding solar thermal energy with other renewable sources of heat generation to avoid the time problem of solar power generation.

RESULTS

Although results have not yet been obtained from the analysis and studies being carried out, it should be noted that the ultimate purpose of the project, if the conclusions regarding viability obtained from the current analyses are positive, is the future construction and commercialization of installations for small-scale electricity generation through the utilization of solar thermal energy.
